This is the index for the Second Life™ Skills material. It has been developed in partnership with both parties able to use it under a creative commons share-alike licence.
This material will not cover every skill in Second Life, certainly not at first.
It now comes in three parts.
- Part one is aimed at general skills to enable learners to attend classes in Second Life and get around Second Life in a minimal way so they can change clothes, find places to visit etc. - both of which may be ancillary to some classes but may be essential in others.
- Part two is aimed more at those teaching in Second Life. It is not a complete guide, although I will very happily take additional submissions of ideas, links etc. to try and build it into a more comprehensive resource.
- Part three is a collection of tutorials and help on specific topics within Second Life.
In addition, I occasionally teach these topics in Second Life, and I will be adding links to transcripts of these classes where available.
- Learning in Second Life - the Walking and Talking basics
- For the teacher
- Specific tutorials
Class in (bad) French for architects about building and scripting in Second Life.
Conventions used:
- Menu items will be given in the format Edit>Preferences. They will be in the emphasis style, with the menu name, and then the item to select following a >. If there are more options to drill down in the menu structure there will be additional > items, e.g. Tools>Select Tool>Create.
- Where available, keystroke equivalents will also be given in the same format e.g. Cntl-P or Cntl-4. Because I use a Mac only, there may be some commands which seem odd, but Second Life on the Mac usually uses the Cntl key rather than the Cmd key.
- Screen shots will be included where possible. Because there are a range of different clients for Second Life you may find that your client looks a little different - particularly if you are using the silver interface rather than the traditional interface. These differences are cosmetic rather than functional.
